BAKING TIP #3

When baking, make sure to warm up the oven to the correct temperature.
Don't put your batter in while the oven is warming up as different temperatures can cause your pastries to be unevenly cooked.

Basketball Cupcakes

Late Posting but Happy Birthday Jamal. The Basketball Cupcakes came out well but were rushed nonetheless. I know you enjoyed them!

*Note: not all the cupcakes were basketballized!

How to make these:
You will need: Fondant, Tip #3 from Wilton, Buttercream Icing, Orange Gel Dye from Wilton, Black icing gel (or black licorice laces, depending on what you prefer).

Using the tip of Tip#3 will give you the rippled effect of the basketball. Adding the black icing gel or the licorice laces will give the basketball lines. Using a gumpaste tool, you can create the crevices to pipe in the black gel, OR you can improvise like I did and use something else.

Overall, this is an easy project.

Various Pastries

So over the holidays we prepared some tasty treats but have been too busy to post them. I won't go into detail on them but below are a few of the ideas we did.

I thought this one looked like a Christmas tree.
Vanilla Bean on one side and Premium Swiss Chocolate on the other.

Candy Cane Hot chocolate and cupcakes. What's better than this!

Gignerbread

First off,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm sure everyone's Christmas and New Year was splendid! Over the holidays we've been baking! Some projects turning out better than others. Below features a gingerbread house that was done quite quickly but was just for the kiddies.

We started off by buying a pre-baked Gingerbread House kit by Wilton. Now you can make the gingerbread yourself and cut out the shapes but we took the easy way out (lol).

Includes: Pre-Baked pieces, spearmint leaves, 2 kinds of candy, royal icing mix.
Note: In this package, the windows and doors are not engraved into the gingerbread.
Pictured below is the result of our quickly done house. But as you can see, adding a bit of extra candy to create a walkway, and some coconut to look like snow spruces up our little gingerbread house.

Aside from Gingerbread, for the kiddies we also made some cellophane bags filled with candy! Who wouldn't want this! An idea such as this is a great gift idea. You can substitute candy for cookies or chocolate to name a few. When packaged beautifully and given as a gift, this idea will be surely appreciated.

Tomorrow, I'll be posting all the goodies we made this Christmas!

BAKING TIP #2

When mixing ingredients, be sure to keep mixing the same way each time. If you mix the batter, counter-clockwise and then stop, make sure you continue counter-clockwise when you come back. This helps to eliminate any lumps that may otherwise occur.

Cool Girl "Sassy Shades" Cake

Hey!!! First project of the winter season went underway yesterday as I made my niece's 15th Birthday Cake. My inspiration was the "sassy shades"cake by Wilton but I renamed it the "cool girl" cake lol.

The Flavour of the cake was Orange Spice. It tasted scrumptious! For the next time, I will double what the recipe says in order to be a bit more batter though. Want the recipe? Leave a comment below.

An overall run down of the cake:
I used fondant to cover the entire cake. I used Icing colours in order to tint the fondant yellow, brown, and the hair colour is terra cotta. (I'm sorta loving this terra cotta colour). I also used some piping gel to attach sparkle dust around the glasses, earrings, and headband.

Aside from making the cake, I also made cupcakes for the celebration. They were regular vanilla chip cupcakes with buttercream icing. On some there are gingerbread quins, coconut, yellow sugar, or fondant stars. Appropriate decorating for the celebration I believe since my niece is a star!

My lovely niece enjoying her cake.
So the process took me about 3.5 hours to do roughly. I did have help preparing some batter pans from my lovely assistant: my sister Tiffany. Thanks for the help sis!

If you would like a cake like this to be done, have another idea you'd like to see, question, comment or concern, feel free to leave below or email us.

As Christmas is only 6 days away, show me or tell me what you've got in store!

Supplies!

To me, this is every bakers dream! A whole lot of supplies! As you can see, I either got carried away in the baking aisle or have a few projects to complete over the next couple of weeks.....I bet you're wondering which one....

.....well... a bit of both is the answer! lol

I have everything from icing colours, fondant, coloured crystal sugar, a 20inch fondant rolling pin (not pictured), buttercream icing, an icing kit, extra icing bottles, a few tips, 3 piece cookie sheet set, etc.
After I came home, I took out all the dry products I had and put them into some containers i had laying around and labelled them. I have cornstarch, icing sugar, cake and pastry flour, and some candy cane hot chocolate (yumm, that's for me as I bake)!
As you can see I have two drawers full of tools. The boxes are filled with cookie cutters and icing colours.

Right now for the Christmas Holiday, Bed Bath and Beyond, Michaels, Bulk Barn are all having sales where you can find tons of baking items. Check them out!

Come back soon and see the treats I'm making with all these tools (and more).

Happy Baking!
