Owl Cake

My friend Rosie is in love with Owls. Her birthday was in May and she originally seen a two-tier Owl cake with Cherry Blossoms. I was asked to re-create it using a one tier and this was the result.

I made the cake more of a tree stump for the Owl with a few cherry blossom branches sticking out.

She absolutely loved her cake and I am happy that she did.

The side here is to allow for the stump and roots effect. If you look closely, you can see the lines engrained into the fondant as though it was actual bark.

Cars. Happy 3rd Birthday

Cars "the movie" Cake and Cake Pops.

Aiden's mommy is a regular here at Sweet Pieces Bakery and she always leaves the design up to me. While it is always fun to have control of a design, it is nerve wrecking when you show it to them for the first time. In this case, and like always with Ms. Nisha, she loved my idea.

Happy 3rd Birthday Aiden!

The cake is vanilla covered in fondant
The cake pops are vanilla with a hint of coconut.

The design of the cake features a Roadway for the cars, Checkered Flag along the back, and the cars logo.

The cake pops turned out really well. I almost wasn't going to make them as the last time I had a few crack. I researched a few reasons why and changed my method vaguely. This time I had no issues and will apply the same method next time!

**Note: A little ribbon goes a long way to making something plain look elegant. As one of my favourite movies says: simplicity is a fine line between elegance and plainness.**

Gender Reveal/Birthday Cake

Boy or Girl?!
Who will win?!

This cake was created for a Gender Reveal Party as well as to say Happy Birthday to the pregnant Mommy. Although this cake was made in early December, with the recent Superbowl this past Sunday, I felt it was a good time to post this cake.

Some pictures from the happy customers.

Paw Patrol

When asked to make a Paw Patrol Cake - I had absolutely no idea what Paw Patrol was except that it involved a fire station Dalmatian. I took to Pinterest as many do when in need of some inspiration and came up with the following design.

This cake absolutely needed a topper. This little guy was Hand Crafted by me and turned out way better than I had hoped. His name is Chase (as per the TV show).

Unfinished cake until we add on the topper!

Look at him sitting on his throne!
Just adorable!

Turquoise Quilt

Turquoise Quilt Cake with Pink Icing and Pink Batter.

A very Quick Crumb Coat of the cake. I left plastic underneath so the icing would not get everywhere. After applying fondant, I removed it for less clean up.

The finished product.
The gold ribbon was wrapped around the bottom to make it pop a bit more.

Butterfly Cookie

This cookie was made at "Golda's Kitchen" Cookie Decorating Class. I took the class to dabble in cookies outside of cakes. The cookie is a shortbread cookie which was then covered in fondant. Using a venetian rolling pin, I rolled it across fondant, used the same cookie cutter used to cut out the cookie shape, to cut out the shape in fondant. Using piping gel, I adhered the fondant to the cookie and used Metallic Gold Paint to outline the raised parts of the pattern.

Voila!

These cookies are perfect take-home gifts and can be customized to  match your theme.

Tiffany & Co Inspired

This cake was inspired by the Tiffany & Co. box for a bridal shower party.
I've done something similar in the past, but this one turned out better than the last.

Royalty Cake

A friend of mine ordered this royal cake for her boyfriend's 25th birthday. It was an interesting thing to make.

The navy blue fondant was achieved by starting with white fondant. I then used Wilton's Colour Right System starting with drops of blue mixing with red and pink. Eventually after getting the blue colour, I then darkened it with a bit of black. Voila!

After quilting the side of the cake, I stuck gold pearls to the side.  I melted white chocolate into a numbers mold and placed in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes. After I took them out, I painted the numbers as well as the crown with an "old gold" lustre dust from Golda's Kitchen.

The front "Happy Birthday Kareem" sign was made by his girlfriend using paper and sparkles. And lastly, the car  is a black Audi - which is what he drives daily.

CARS -- 3rd Birthday Cake

CARS!
This beauty was made for little 3 year old Sebastian! Happy Birthday cutey!

We started off with a round 8" cake. Crumb coated the cake and putting it in the fridge to set for approximately 15 minutes. After Taking the cake out it was covered with black fondant that we rolled out. Using the stretching and smoothing method, we then were finished covering our cake.

Once we covered the cake, we added the details to the cake we had pre-made.
The little log is our cars podium as you can see in the picture above.
Checkers all around the cake and a special #3 for this little guy!

Bride to Bee

I was asked to make 50 cupcakes for.a bridal shower with the theme "bride to BEE", this is what I came up with. These cute little bumble bees took a while to make, but came out well and are ready for flight.

To make a bumble bee, you require the following tools.
-Yellow, Black, and White fondant
-Tip 3
-Edible Glue
-shaping tool
-knife or pizza cutter

Steps
1. Start by rolling the yellow fondant into an oval.
2. Use the front of tip 3 to cut out the bee's eyes.
3. Use the back of tip 3 to cut circles for the beeS wings, then combine them together by using a shaping tool.
4. Use a knife or pizza cutter to cute straight lines for the bee's body. Take a pieces of black fondant and shape with your fingers for the stinger.
5. Apply all pieces will edible glue

After I pre=made these bumblebees, I moved on to decorating my cupcakes. I used a 1A to shape my icing into a beehive.

Since I had to have these picked up, each cupcake got it's own container which I purchased at Creative bag (great store by the way).

Once I was done, I placed a bumble bee on top each hive.

I packed two sides of a corrugated box with newspaper to keep the containers from moving around. I then tied both boxes together with a strong bow for easy transport.

This is the completed version.

Hope these brought a smile to your day!
